What Every Teacher Should Know about Teaching English Language Learners
This online course is intended to help be more successful with the ELL’s in the classroom. All the course’s reading and writing assignments are intended to help participants better align their teaching with five Pennsylvania English Language Proficiency Standards. This framework was revised by the PA Department of Education in 2015 to better correlate with Pennsylvania Core/Academic Standards, thus increasing rigor in the ESL program and giving ELs equitable access to subject content. Throughout the course we utilize the PA English Language Proficiency Standards along with their Model Performance Indicators, to illustrate and teach how to effectively differentiate instruction and assessment across content areas for ELs at varying levels of English Language Proficiency.
