The purpose of this online course is to impact student learning through the digital workshop framework that provides authentic writing opportunities for specific purposes. Computer mediated writing provides for choice about topic and genre, active revision, publication beyond the classroom, and addressing the craft of writing. Social networking and collaborative writing technologies are engrained in students’ lives. Teachers have a crucial role in supporting students in understanding the complexities of communicating in a twenty-first century world. Digital writing is about the changes in the ecology of writing and communicating and what it means to write, to create, and to compose and share. This course is designed for asynchronous, self-paced learning, a student mastery-centered approach that utilizes web-based tools, resources and discussions that are appropriate for each student’s learning environment. Discussions will enable participants to share thoughts and ideas.
